Ozzfest 10th Anniversary DVD - My Review (11/30/2005)

Let me start off by saying what a kick-ass package this is! This wasn't just thrown together by some idiot in his basement like other DVD's out there. The editing is superb. The sound quality is 5.1 DTS Digital Surround so if you have the right equipment you can really shake the foundations.

DVD Content

There is a brand new Ozzy interview on here. It's just Ozzy sitting in a room talking about all kinds of stuff. He speaks about what it's like being on the road with Sharon and Ozzfest, old Black Sabbath stories, The Osbournes TV show, childhood memories, and much much more. Pieces of this interview are edited in before each bands performace through-out the DVD.

At one point, Ozzy is asked what he thinks about Ozzfest starting at 9:00am in the morning. He tells a story about an early 1970's Sabbath gig, where they were supposed to go on at 1:00am, but didn't get to go on until 7:00am.

At another point in the interview, Ozzy is explaining how he hates when there are 1 or 2 people in the crowd just standing there not getting into the concert. He tells a tale where all these kids were on the side of the stage at one of his concerts just standing there, so he started yelling at them... turns out they were all deaf. A very embarassed Ozzy spent the rest of the concert apologizing!

Now, there aren't just Ozzy interviews on here... there are countless interviews with all of the bands, all of the crew members, guitar techs, managers.... I mean everybody! Jack Osbourne is also on hand for a full back stage guide, and there are also bonus feature interviews with Slash, Zakk Wylde, and much more!

The music

I'll start with Black Sabbath (of course)... there are three songs on here, "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Paranoid", all filmed live at Donnington Park, Derbyshire, UK on 6/11/05. These are stellar performances! The Dvd is worth these 3 songs alone!

Anthrax - Joey Belladonna reuniting with Anthrax...simply awesome. The Anthrax I grew up with (and loved) is back to perform "Caught In A Mosh". Filmed live at Donnington Park, Derbyshire, UK on 6/11/05.

Trivium perform "A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation" - Heavy stuff man! Never heard these guys before now. Filmed live at Donnington Park, Derbyshire, UK on 6/11/05.

Soil Work perform "Blind Eye Halo" - same here again, never heard of them before now... but very heavy. Not a big fan of this tune, but if you like the band, it's great footage. Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

The Haunted perform "Bury Your Dead" - ditto last comment. Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

Gizmachi perform "Voice Of Sanity" - double ditto. Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

Rob Zombie performs "More Human Then Human" and "Dragula" - Rob always puts on a great show. Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

Wicked Wisdom performs "You Can't Handle" - Puuuuuuuuulease! NEXT!

It Dies Today performs "A Threnoby For Modern Romance" Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

H.I.M. performs "Soul On Fire" - Tight band, good tunes, check them out if you never have. Filmed live at Donnington Park, Derbyshire, UK on 6/11/05.

A Dozen Furies performs "Awake And Lifeless" - Good performance, but I was more a fan of the band that came in 3rd place on "Battle For Ozzfest". Filmed live at the Tweeter Waterfront in Camden, NJ on 7/19/2005.

Velvet Revolver performs "Sucker Train Blues" - I'm a VR fan, but those guys playing on Ozzfest seemed a little strange. Not really heavy enough to hold their weight, but a good performace to watch. Filmed live at Donnington Park, Derbyshire, UK on 6/11/05.

Not only does this package include the DVD, but you also get an audio cd so you can rock out in your car.

The audio cd contains the following tracks:

BLACK SABBATH - "War Pigs"
BLACK SABBATH - "Iron Man"
BLACK SABBATH - "Paranoid"
VELVET REVOLVER - "Sucker Train Blues"
ANTHRAX - "Caught In A Mosh"
BOWLING FOR SOUP "1985"
H.I.M. - "Soul On Fire"
ALTER BRIDGE - "The End Is Here"
THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS - "Pulse"
TRIVIUM - "A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation"
ROB ZOMBIE - "More Human Than Human"
ROB ZOMBIE - "Dragula"
THE HAUNTED - "Bury Your Dead"
SOILWORK - "Blind Eye Halo"

What I don't like, or what could have been better...

Wish the entire Sabbath concert from Donnington was available in full.

Wicked Wisdom (Why were they even on Ozzfest to begin with? Never understood that one.)

Bowling For Soup performing "1985" on an Ozzfest DVD? Huh? Just doesn't fit here.

What it all comes down to...

Go buy it! It's a must for any Ozzy Osbourne and/or Black Sabbath fan (or just an Ozzfest fan in general for that matter). It completley sums up 10 years of this long running festival. You need this!
