Black Sabbath "The Rebel" 1969 Demo (1-20-11)
"The Rebel" is without a doubt one of the most sought-after BLACK SABBATH songs ever recorded. Although a small fragment of this very un-SABBATH like song can be heard on 'The Black Sabbath Story Volume 1' video, most fans have never heard this still-unreleased 1969 demo.
"Is it an EARTH or BLACK SABBATH demo? One of the most frequently asked questions about "The Rebel" is whether the song could be considered as an EARTH demo. Although the actual acetate credits the recording to BLACK SABBATH, the song was recorded during a transitional period. It has been alleged in several recent BLACK SABBATH biographies that the band decided upon changing their name from EARTH to BLACK SABBATH while they were on route to The Star Club in Hamburg in early August 1969. To avoid the inevitable confusion arising from this sudden change, the band performed many prior bookings as EARTH. In fact, their final gig as EARTH was performed in Kilcaldy, Scotland just one day after recording "The Rebel".
The recording session for "The Rebel" took place at Trident Studios in St. Anne's Court in Soho, which was an 8-track facility at the time. Overseeing the session was Gus Dudgeon, who had also worked with LOCOMOTIVE and would later produce albums for ELTON JOHN and DAVID BOWIE. The band was less than impressed with Gus, who kept using LOCOMOTIVE as the benchmark for anything they did. It was than that engineer Rodger Bain was offered his first chance to produce a record... and the rest is history.
The band had just returned from a German tour to begin rehearsing. Manager Jim Simpson suggested that they record "The Rebel", a song that was written by Norman Haines. Norman played keyboards in Jim's band LOCOMOTIVE. Haines also took part in this session, playing organ and piano. Two months later, the band recorded yet another Haines composition called 'When I Come Down', which was retitled 'When I Came Down' for the SABBATH version. The band weren't pleased with either of these songs, but went along with the sessions so their manager would have something to shop to the record labels. Neither song represented the heavy rock direction they were already formulating OR their EARTH-y blues based roots."

Parting Out My Bootleg Collection (1-16-11)
Those of you who remember my site from years ago will recall my enormous cd/video tape/audio tape collection. I actively traded everything and anything that had to do
with Ozzy Osbourne with people all over the world and amassed (arguably) the largest collection ever put together. Well, the time has come for me to let go of these items and pass them on to someone who can enjoy it as much as I did. There's literally over 1000 items here... with countless hours and hours worth of shows by all kinds of artists.
I'm not looking for money. I'm looking to trade my original copies for electronics (iPod's, camera equipment, etc...), toys (RC Cars, vintage stuff) or antiques.
If you are interested in anything... please feel free to contact me: ozzyhead@ozzyhead.com. Here are the lists:

Tony Iommi Diagnosed With Cancer (1-9-12)
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, according to a statement on his website on Monday. The British heavy metal group's original lineup is writing and recording its first album in 33 years, and the band members will move from Los Angeles to London in order to work with Iommi while he undergoes treatment.
"His bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time," the statement read, adding that the new album was still scheduled for release in the autumn.
"Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan -- the 'Iron Man' of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery."
Iommi, 63, is a founding member of Black Sabbath, one of the most successful hard rock acts in history who have sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide.
The veterans announced in November that they were reuniting in their original four man line-up, including Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, for their first new album in more than three decades and a 2012 world tour.

Description: God Bless Ozzy Osbourne pulls the curtain open on the man known as the Prince of Darkness. For four decades Ozzy has been a rock icon known as much for his trademark personality and offstage antics as for his music as the frontman of Black Sabbath. With his rise to fame and money and his self-esteem issues, everything eventually took a toll on Ozzy as he embarked on an epic binge that would last 40 years.
Directors Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli spent two years on the road with Ozzy. Live footage from his latest tour is threaded throughout, but it's Ozzy's reflections and surprising candor about himself that make up the heart of the film. Frank interviews with his family - including Kelly, Jack (also a producer of the film), and wife Sharon, who we saw on the popular television series The Osbournes, as well as his other children and siblings - don't always paint a pretty picture. But Ozzy readily admits that his crazy life, marked by decades-long battles against addiction, affected his role as a husband and father. His life and career have had their ups and downs, and this definitive bio-doc is a testament to his survival.

Congrat's to the following winners! Andrew L. of Caesarea, Ontario, Canada
Marc S. of Pleasantville, NY
Andrew F. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Description: Wondering if science could explain how he survived his 40-year avalanche of drugs and alcohol, Ozzy Osbourne became one of a handful of people in the world to have his entire DNA mapped in 2010. It was a highly complex, $65,000 process, but the results were conclusive: Ozzy is a genetic anomaly.
The "Full Ozzy Genome" contained variants that scientists had never before encountered and the findings were presented at the prestigious TEDMED Conference in San Diego-making headlines around the world. The procedure was in part sponsored by The Sunday Times of London, which had already caused an international fururoe by appointing Ozzy Osbourne its star health advice columnist. The newpaper argued that Ozzy's mutliple near-death experiences, 40-year history of drug abuse, and extreme hypocondria qualified him more than any other for the job. The column was an overnight hit, being quickly picked up by Rolling Stone to give it a global audience of millions.
In TRUST ME, I'M DR. OZZY, Ozzy answers reader's questions with his outrageous wit and surprising wisdom, digging deep into his past to tell the memoir-style survival stories never published before-and offer guidance that no sane human being should follow. Part humor, part memoir, and part bad advice, TRUST ME, I'M DR. OZZY will include some of the best material from his published columns, answers to celebrities' medical questions, charts, sidebars, and more.

Description: "Iron Man" chronicles the story of both pioneering guitarist Tony Iommi and legendary band Black Sabbath, dubbed "The Beatles of heavy metal" by Rolling Stone. "Iron Man" reveals the man behind the icon yet still captures Iommi's humor, intelligence, and warmth. He speaks honestly and unflinchingly about his rough-and-tumble childhood, the accident that almost ended his career, his failed marriages, personal tragedies, battles with addiction, band mates, famous friends, newfound daughter, and the ups and downs of his life as an artist.
Everything associated with hard rock happened to Black Sabbath first: the drugs, the debauchery, the drinking, the dungeons, the pressure, the pain, the conquests, the company men, the contracts, the combustible drummer, the critics, the comebacks, the singers, the Stonehenge set, the music, the money, the madness, the metal.

Black Sabbath Reunion Tour & New Album Announcement (11-11-11)
The original lineup of the legendary heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH announced on Friday (November 11) that it was reuniting for its first new album in 33 years and a 2012 world tour.Singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward revealed during a press conference at legendary Sunset Strip club Whisky a Go Go they were working on new material for the album which will be made available Vertigo/Universal Republic in the U.S. and Vertigo in all other territories. There is no title as yet but it will be produced by Rick Rubin, who has previously worked with METALLICA, SLIPKNOT, SLAYER and SYSTEM OF A DOWN, among many others. The band hopes to begin recording the CD in January for a fall 2012 release. A world tour will follow, including an appearance at the U.K.'s Download festival on June 10, 2012.
"It's now or never. We are getting along great. Everything's really good," Iommi said.
"It's like putting on an old glove. It's fantastic," he added.
The band credited Rubin's persistence for helping get them back in the studio. "He phoned us every five minutes," Iommi joked.
"It was the obvious choice," explained Osbourne of Rubin as producer. "I've known Rick for many years."
"It was time," said Osbourne of the reunion. "The timing was right."
Osbourne went on to reveal that they've written "seven or eight" new songs for the album, which they plan to release at the end of next year.
Butler added that the new songs are "back to the old SABBATH style and sound. The stuff that Tony's been playing is absolutely brilliant."
Rubin, who was also present at the event, said: "We've been working on developing material and we're halfway into the writing process. It's inspiring hearing what's coming out."
A two-minute video clip featuring highlights from the press conference has been posted on the newly launched official BLACK SABBATH You Tube channel and can be seen below.
The Ozzy-fronted lineup of SABBATH hasn't toured since 2005 and last appeared together when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006. They attempted to cut a new album - their first since 1978's "Never Say Die!" - with Rick Rubin in 1999, but the sessions fell apart after just a couple of songs and Osbourne turned his attention to his solo career. The Ronnie James Dio lineup reunited under the moniker HEAVEN & HELL in 2006 but split four years later, after Dio passed away.
Jack Osbourne Is Going to Be a Father (10-11-11)
Less than two weeks after confirming his engagement, Jack Osbourne, 25, announced that he's going to be a father.
"I'm excited. I'm a little nervous," the son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne said Tuesday on Piers Morgan Tonight.
It'll be the first child for Osbourne and his fiancee, actress Lisa Stelly, who gushed about her future husband when announcing their engagement.

"Black Sabbath FAQ: All That's Left to Know on the First Name in Metal" Contest Winners (6-28-11)
And the winners are...Nick R. from Staten Island, NY
Neil D. from Methuen, MA
Brian M. from Virginia Beach, VA
The correct answers to contest questions were:
1.Before "Black Sabbath" and "Earth", what did the band call themselves? - Polka Tulk
2.What was the title of the poem printed inside the gatefold of the first release of the album "Black Sabbath"? - Still Falls The Rain
3.What is the name of Black Sabbath's first manager? - Jim Simpson
About the book:
Backbeat Books is excited to announce the newest volume in its series of deliciously bite-size trivia. Unlike any Sabbath book thus far, Black Sabbath FAQ: All That's Left to Know on the First Name in Metal digs deep into quirks & trivia and burning questions surrounding the Sabs.
Martin Popoff, the author of more books on heavy metal than anybody in the world, delves into topics and debates that may be inappropriate for a traditional biography but live, breathe, and shout right here. Since Doom Let Loose, Popoff's first Black Sabbath book and widely considered the definitive biography of the band, the author has conducted many additional Sabbath-related interviews. Like a rabid detective unearthing (and sometimes debunking) ancient Sabbath lore, he valiantly covers new ground, applying academic rigor but then wildly sounding off with lurid opinion. This book is pieced together in topical chapters thick with the tales beneath the skin and all that goofy stuff that will leave metal-heads arguing over for generations to come.
The non-chronological format of the FAQ series allows the luxury of colorful and in-earnest explorations of topics rarely given their due in linear biographies. Though a wild ride from cover to cover, it also offers a myriad of entry points into the story for headbanging power-chord fanatics with specific topics of interest or just short attention spans.
In this book, find answers to:
- How did Black Sabbath inspire the doom metal genre?
- How did they get along with their tour mates?
- What's the story behind the cover art of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath?
- What happened between Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult?
- What has each member done since Black Sabbath?
With trivia and rankings of songs, albums, art, demos, and studios; timelines; and album reviews, Black Sabbath FAQ is a must-have for metal fans.
